Wat Phra Si Sanphet

Wat Phra Si Sanphet is a grand Buddhist temple ("wat") located in the old royal palace of the Ayutthaya Kingdom (in modern-day central Thailand). It served as the royal temple until the kingdom moved its capital, reserved for the exclusive use of the royal family. Monks were not allowed to live there and required an invitation to visit. Over the course of the kingdom's history, Wat Phra Si Sanphet hosted countless important religious and ceremonial events for the Ayutthaya royal family.
Today, only the temple's three grey-and-white stupas (known as "chedi" in Thailand) remain standing, and they have come to serve as a symbol for the Ayutthaya Kingdom as a whole. As embodiments of Thailand's unique cultural heritage, the three chedi are celebrated as a historical treasure both in Thailand and around the world.
