FAQ de Rise of Kingdoms: Armamentos

Formaciones e inscripciones

What are armaments and formations in RoK?

  • A formation is the battle shape a march uses, and each one gives a built-in bonus to one kind of damage (skill, smite, combo, normal attack and so on).
  • Armaments are gear pieces that slot into a formation: an Emblem, a Flag, an Instrument and a Scroll.
  • Each armament gives stat attributes (attack, defense, health, damage) and can carry inscriptions, which are extra effects on top.
  • The formation you pick on a commander decides which armaments and inscriptions are active for that march.

How do I unlock armaments and where do I get them?

  • They open up as your kingdom moves through the Season of Conquest, with armament rewards turning up in events from Season 2 onward.
  • Main sources: Travel and Dispatch from the State Forum, the Armament Shop, Lost Kingdom crusader achievements, and events like Lucerne Scrolls and Silk Road that give Formation Choice Chests and Random Armament Chests.
  • Upgrade the State Forum, since higher levels give you more daily travel and dispatch chances, which is your steady free income of armaments.

What's the difference between common, rare and special inscriptions?

  • Common: small flat buffs, like +3.5% attack, defense or health, or about 1% extra damage.
  • Rare: stronger, more focused effects, often 4 to 10% to one damage type or a useful resistance.
  • Special: the best tier. They give a big base buff plus a triggered effect, and each formation has its own small set of specials.
  • Epic armaments can only roll common or rare. Specials only come on legendary armaments.

What are the odds of getting a special inscription?

  • Very low. The official probability table puts a single special on a legendary armament at well under 1%, with a rare at a few percent, and most legendaries come with just a common.
  • So don't count on luck. Count on the pity systems: rare inscription progress and the 150-legendary guarantee.

How does the special inscription pity / progress bar work?

  • Every rare-inscription armament you get for a formation adds 1 point of progress for that formation.
  • At 9 points, the next rare-inscription armament for that formation becomes a special instead, and the bar resets.
  • On top of that, if you open 150 legendary armaments for one formation, at least one is guaranteed to be rare or better.
  • Progress is per formation, so focusing one formation fills it much faster.

What is the armament wishlist?

  • In the Formations screen you can wishlist one armament per formation.
  • After that, every special-inscription armament you get for that formation is guaranteed to be the one you wishlisted.
  • Set it before opening chests or spending the pity, otherwise you can land a special on a piece you don't want.

Can I reroll inscriptions on an armament?

  • Not directly. Transmutation only rerolls the attributes (the stat lines), not the inscriptions.
  • Armament Converters swap a special-inscription armament into a different special armament of the same formation, which is the closest thing to fixing a bad special.
  • Conversion Stones move a legendary armament to another formation. Its special and rare inscriptions change to that formation's versions, while attributes and common inscriptions stay.

How does transmutation work?

  • Only inscribed legendary armaments can be transmuted. It randomizes the attributes using Transmutation Stones.
  • You can lock 1 or 2 attributes to keep them. More locks cost more stones.
  • After each roll you can keep the new result or revert to the old one, so you never lose a good roll.
  • Each armament has a cap of 10 transmutations, and a Transmutation Crystal resets that count once it's used up.

Which attributes should I lock or aim for when transmuting?

  • Lock any all-damage line first. A percent of all damage is worth much more than a percent of attack, defense or health.
  • Next keep stats for your march's troop type (cavalry attack on a cavalry piece, etc). Off-type stats are close to wasted.
  • Spend stones only on armaments with a special or a strong rare, since those are the pieces you'll keep for a long time.

Best formation for cavalry?

  • Delta is the go-to for most current cavalry pairs, since it boosts combo attack damage and many top cav commanders combo.
  • Key specials: Flurry (Emblem), Steelskin (Flag), Thrasher (Scroll), Butterfly Effect (Instrument).
  • If your cav pair is skill-damage based instead of combo, Wedge can be better.

Best formation for infantry?

  • Pincer, because current top infantry leads (Bai Qi, Liu Che, Sun Tzu Prime pairings) deal heavy smite damage and Pincer boosts smite.
  • Key specials: Toppler or Dominate (Scroll), Demolisher or Cleaver (Instrument), Bulwark (Flag), Thundering or Tidebreaker (Emblem).
  • Good rares: Charge, Rattling, Vigor, Imploder.

Best formation for archers?

  • Wedge, since it boosts skill damage and archer leads like Zhuge Liang, Qin Shi Huang, Alp Arslan and Hermann Prime are skill-damage commanders.
  • Key specials: Hunter or Advantage Advanced (Scroll), Unstoppable or Indomitable (Instrument), Maneuver at Ease or Balanced (Flag), Intrepid or Horseback Action (Emblem).
  • Good rares: Soar, Boiling Blood, Focus Fire, Divine Staff.

How do I pick a formation for my commander in general?

  • Match the formation to how your primary commander deals damage: skill damage goes Wedge, smite goes Pincer, combo attack goes Delta, normal attack goes Arch.
  • Hollow Square is a defensive, shield-based option with a small all-damage bonus.
  • Read your lead's skill text. The damage type it scales is the formation you want, then build armaments for that formation only.

What is Delta formation and is it worth it?

  • Delta gives a flat 10% boost to combo attack damage.
  • It's strong if your lead commander has combo attacks, which many recent cavalry commanders do.
  • If your commander doesn't combo, the formation bonus does nothing for you, so skip it.

What do the best Arch formation inscriptions do?

  • Arch is built around normal attack damage. Its specials are Destructive, Fearless, Invincible and Straight to the Point.
  • Fearless is a simple big normal damage boost. Destructive adds normal damage plus a chance to spend rage for a huge hit.
  • It fits normal-attack-heavy marches. Most current top leads lean on skill, smite or combo, so Arch is less common now.

Are common inscriptions worth anything?

  • Yes, they add up across four pieces. Flat damage commons (about 1% extra damage) and 3.5% attack, defense or health commons are all decent.
  • Ignore situational ones like barbarian damage or bonuses that only work in a different formation.
  • A legendary with two good commons and great attributes beats an epic with a weak rare.

Should a F2P / low spender spread armaments across formations?

  • No. Pick the one formation your main march uses and pour everything into it: Formation Choice Chests, wishlist, transmutation stones.
  • Pity progress counts per formation, so splitting slows every bar down.
  • Once that formation has specials in the key slots, start on a second formation for your next march.

What should I do with armaments I don't need?

  • Recycle them. You get coins you can spend on upgrade materials or Formation Choice Chests.
  • Keep anything with a special or a strong rare for your main formations, and keep good spares for a possible future formation swap with Conversion Stones.
  • Junk epics and off-formation legendaries with weak commons are safe to recycle.

What's good for garrison or defense?

  • Look for resistance inscriptions. Fortified gives big skill, smite and combo resistance while garrisoned in your city, and Vigilant adds counterattack damage in your city.
  • Hollow Square's shield inscriptions (Inviolable, Crowned, Rounded, Cocoon) help shield-heavy commanders.
  • Set up a separate loadout for garrison so you don't have to rebuild it each time.

Can I save different armament setups?

  • Yes. You can save a commander's armament setup as a loadout and switch between them quickly.
  • Useful for swapping between field, rally and garrison builds without moving pieces one by one.

Can I move an armament with a good special to another formation?

  • Yes, with a Conversion Stone on a legendary armament.
  • It becomes the same armament type for the new formation. Special and rare inscriptions switch to that formation's versions, while attributes and common inscriptions stay.
  • Conversion Stones come from Potentate achievements (based on how many legendaries you've collected) and Lost Kingdom crusader achievements.

Which armament slot matters most?

  • No slot is clearly the best. Each slot has its own specials per formation, so aim for a special in the slot whose special is strongest for your commander.
  • Use the wishlist on that piece first, then fill the rest with the best rares you can get.
  • For archers on Wedge, the Scroll and Instrument specials are usually top priority.

What armament formation and inscriptions should I use for the Sun Tzu Prime + Bai Qi infantry pair?

Use Pincer. It's the smite-damage formation, and both commanders deal smite damage.

Inscriptions to chase:

  • Scroll: Dominate, Toppler. Then Bludgeon, Imploder, Ward, Robust.
  • Instrument: Cleaver, Demolisher. Then Charge.
  • Flag: Bulwark, then Airtight.
  • Emblem: Tidebreaker, Thundering. Then Vigor, Rattling.

Dominate, Cleaver, Bulwark and Tidebreaker are the newer legendary Pincer inscriptions and the best you can get. Toppler, Demolisher, Airtight and Thundering are the older specials, still strong.

For a city garrison, swap the damage scroll for defensive inscriptions.

What is Wedge Formation II? (Wedge 2, new Wedge formation)

Wedge Formation II came with the spring 2026 update. It is a separate formation: the troop deals 12% more skill damage. Its armaments are new items with their own special inscriptions, including Herald's Ensign (Flag) and Herald's Message (Scroll).

  • Armaments drop from travels, dispatches, formation choice chests, random armament chests and events.
  • The Armament Shop sells a special inscription for Herald's Ensign; Lost Kingdom inscription shops sell one for Herald's Message.

If you run skill damage nukers, it is the formation to build toward, and the Wishlist Swap event lets you move progress from Wedge.

What are Swapping Stones and the Wishlist Swap event? (move wishlist progress to Wedge II)

Swapping Stones come from event quests (the Conversion Stone event added with Wedge Formation II). In the Wishlist Swap event you spend them to move your Wishlist and inscription guarantee progress between Wedge Formation and Wedge Formation II.
Use it if you have built up pity on Wedge but plan to switch your skill damage commanders to Wedge II, so the progress is not stranded. Check event rules before swapping: the move is between those two formations only.

What are Conversion Stones? (convert armament to another formation)

A Conversion Stone turns a Legendary armament into the matching armament of another formation, as long as it uses the same slot (Emblem to Emblem, Flag to Flag and so on). The rare and special inscriptions turn into that formation's versions.
Where to get them: dispatches (there is a dispatch option that rewards Conversion Stone Fragments, now shown first), the shop once you have built the State Forum, and the Conversion Stone event.
They are scarce: use them on an armament with great attributes or a special inscription you want in another formation, not on average pieces. Converting now needs your Secondary Password.

What is armament honing? (hone armaments, Honing Stones)

Honing (added early 2026) raises attributes on a Legendary armament using Honing Stones.

  • Attack, Defense, Health and March Speed attributes for each troop type: +0.2% per hone, up to +3.5% extra.
  • All Damage: +0.1% per hone, up to +2.0% extra.

Honing Stones only come from the Autarch-limited section of the Inscription Shop and the Lost Kingdom Inscription Shop, so they are slow to collect.
Hone the armaments you will keep for a long time (good special inscription, right troop attributes), and focus your main troop's attack or health, or All Damage.

What does each formation do? (all formations list, Arch, Hollow Square, Line, V, Echelon, Tercio)

Formation bonuses only work for the primary commander. Base effects:

  • Arch: +5% attack damage
  • Wedge: +5% skill damage. Wedge Formation II: +12% skill damage
  • Pincer: smite damage (now 12%)
  • Delta: +10% combo attack damage
  • Hollow Square: 2% less damage taken
  • V: switches the troop to ranged mode
  • Echelon: buffs you give other troops are 1.2x stronger
  • Tercio: when garrisoned, armament attribute bonuses apply to all unit types
  • Testudo: less damage while shielded, more healing
  • Circle: +5% healing received
  • Staggered: march speed toward rallies and garrisons
  • Line: +10% gathering speed
  • Triple Line: +5% march speed
  • Double Line: +10% march speed toward barbarians

Do armaments and formations affect the secondary commander? (formation for secondary, rally formation)

No. The formation and all its armaments count only for the primary commander's march. The secondary commander adds nothing to it, so put your best formation on the commanders you actually lead with. In rallies and garrisons, the rally or garrison leader's formation is what matters.
This also means one good formation set can serve several commanders: whoever leads the march uses the formation you choose for it.

Why does the game ask for a Secondary Password on armaments? (secondary password inscribe convert)

Since mid 2026 a Secondary Password is required before inscribing or converting armaments. It protects your most valuable items if someone gets into your account. Set it in account settings before an event where you plan to spend inscriptions or Conversion Stones, so you are not stuck mid-event. If you forget it, the account recovery steps in settings apply.

How do dispatches work? (State Forum dispatch, Dispatch Commendation, Sage's Testimony)

Dispatches unlock at State Forum level 10 and send commanders on missions for armaments and other rewards.

  • Each costs action points, 30 to 150 depending on rarity.
  • Pick up to 3 preferred formations; dispatch armaments come from one of them at random.
  • After 15 successful dispatches the Dispatch Commendation chest gives an Epic or Legendary armament, or 100 Sage's Testimony.
  • At State Forum 18 you get up to 6 dispatches per day.

There is also a dispatch option that rewards Conversion Stone Fragments. Sage's Testimony upgrades the State Forum, so early on it is worth taking.

What is Double Line Formation? (Double Line armaments, Falcon's Pride)

Double Line Formation gives your troop +10% March Speed while it is marching toward barbarians, so it is a barbarian farming and honor farming formation, not a fighting one.

  • Armaments drop from traveling, dispatches, Formation Choice Chests, Random Armament Chests and events.
  • The special inscription for Falcon's Pride (the Flag piece) is in the Armament Shop.
  • The special inscription for Falcon's Wisdom (the Scroll piece) is in Season of Conquest Lost Kingdom Inscription Shops opened after 1.0.99.

Is there a guarantee when transmuting armaments with locked attributes? (transmutation pity)

Yes, since 1.0.94 (May 2025). If you have locked a combat attribute (Attack, Defense, Health, March Speed or Damage) and keep transmuting:

  • Every 10 transmutations guarantee an attribute for the same unit type as one of your locked attributes.
  • Every 30 transmutations guarantee a 2.5%+ attribute for the same unit type as one of your locked attributes.

So once you lock a good line, keep going on the same armament instead of spreading Transmutation Crystals around. Players got Transmutation Crystals back at launch based on what they had spent.

Is armament fusion coming? (fuse armaments)

Not as a permanent feature. In April 2025 the developers said they dropped permanent armament fusion and instead added the transmutation guarantee, more ways to get Transmutation Stones and Transmutation Crystals, and planned fusion only as a limited-time event.

How often are new formations released? (new formation schedule)

In April 2025 the developers said that between December 2025 and May 2026 they would release 3 new formations focused on smite damage, skill damage and combo attack damage, and after that add new formations for those three damage types every 18 months.
So if you are deciding whether to invest, a formation for your damage type should stay current for a long stretch, and conversion tools exist to move good armaments across.

What is an Armament Converter? (convert special armament within a formation)

An Armament Converter turns a special inscription armament into another special inscription armament of the same formation, for example Horn of the North into Emblem of the North. Converting randomizes the armament's basic attributes and resets its transmutation count.
They were mailed out after update 1.0.85, based on how many special inscription armaments each player had already collected for each formation. This is a different item from the Conversion Stone, which moves an armament to another formation.

Why is the Combo inscription called Furious now? (inscription rework 2024)

In 1.0.86 (September 2024) the Combo inscription was renamed Furious, so it would not be confused with combo attack damage. The same update changed Enraged, Tremors, Calm, Devious, Brawler, Daring, Artisan and Furious to work with a wider range of troop setups, so old advice on those inscriptions may be outdated.

How does State Forum travel work? (travel with gems, Luck, Windfall, auto-recycle)

Travel in the State Forum sends you out for armaments and other rewards.

  • The first 20 travels a day use action points. After that you can travel up to 120 more times a day with gems.
  • Every travel adds Luck. Higher Luck raises your chance of a Windfall.
  • Auto-recycle: set conditions and armaments from travel that match them are recycled automatically.
  • Travel x10 and Quick Dispatch buttons speed things up.

As F2P, the action point travels are the value. Gem travels are a gem sink.

What are Transmutation Crystals? (reset transmutation, transmuted 10 times)

Each armament can only be transmuted a limited number of times (10). A Transmutation Crystal resets that count on an armament that has hit the cap, so you can keep rerolling its attributes.
Transmutation only rerolls the attributes, never the inscriptions. So use Crystals on armaments with great inscriptions but still poor attributes, not on ones you will replace anyway.
Crystals come from Season of Conquest Crusader Achievements and other sources.

Is there a guarantee for rare inscriptions? (rare inscription pity, 150 legendary armaments)

Yes. If you collect 150 Legendary armaments for one formation, one of them is guaranteed to have a rare or better inscription. The count is per formation.
Rare inscriptions sit between common and special in strength. This guarantee is separate from the special inscription progress.

How does Travel in the State Forum work? (travel, Luck, Windfall, travel with gems)

Travel sends your commanders on a trip that can reward armaments and other items.

  • It uses action points first. After those chances are used up, you can travel with gems, up to 200 extra times a day.
  • Every trip can give Luck. The more Luck, the higher the chance of a Windfall (a bonus reward). Luck has a daily cap and resets every day.
  • Before traveling you choose 3 preferred formations, and any armament from travel is for one of them.
  • Travel no longer gives resource items or speedups.

As F2P, use the AP travels and skip the gem ones.

How does ranged mode work with the V formation? (V formation ranged, switch to ranged)

Troops using the V formation can switch into ranged mode and hit from distance. They can switch on any open, empty terrain, including outside friendly territory. If you drag a V formation troop onto an enemy troop, it picks a good position and switches to ranged mode by itself. Switching in and out takes a short time, and your troop keeps its formation when it changes mode.
