Lucky Lanterns

As a new year begins, spring washes over the land. The red plums blossom in the cold, bringing a breath of tranquility amidst the smoke of fireworks. Lotus flower lamps reflect each other, coating even the clear river water in a blanket of red light. Lanterns of every shape and size light up the night, warming many a hand and face. The Spring Festival is a feast of family reunion. It is the sound of firecrackers to drive out the old and welcome the new. It is the glow of candlelight on the eve of the new year. And it is a longing for those loved ones who have already enjoyed their final year. The sky lanterns, drifting upwards, send silent blessings and wishes to the heavens. I wonder if those on the other side will get the message?
