Twilight Banquet

It was late October when I escaped from the front lines. The frost had begun early that year, and as I hid in that cold, dark forest, I could feel my fingers growing numb. But you must understand that nothing is worse than hunger - I hadn't eaten for three days. "Lord above!" I thought to myself, "Let me die freezing or exhausted, just not hungry!"
As I finished that thought, the trees before me parted to reveal an open clearing, lit up by the full moon. At the center of the clearing stood a tall and beautiful tower of quarried marble. An orange-yellow glow shined through its windows. I could smell the waft of delicious food and hear the sounds of laughter coming from inside.
I could only muster the strength to knock on the door before I collapsed from hunger. When I came to, it was already daybreak. The taste of roast chicken and earthy wine lingered on my tongue. My body felt warm and my stomach felt full. I got up, looking for someone to thank for the feast I had seemingly forgotten.
The tower had disappeared without a trace.
